Astral Lions

I started Astral Lions a couple of nights ago. Since I messed up on it before, I thought it would be a good idea to go slow and mark my progress with a yellow highlighter. This will also help me find missed stitches! Below are some pics I took:

As you can see, I like to work from the center out on my cross-stitching. I have seen some people work from the border in, but it seems more difficult to count out that far to start than to pinpoint the center and begin there.

A Friend Knows

Late last year I completed a cute little pattern of a cat and dog laying together on a pillow. It gave the option to stitch the lettering in English, French, or Spanish. Since I was giving it to a good friend of mine - who also happens to be from France - I chose French. The saying in English is "A friend knows all about you - and still likes you!"

Below is a picture of the completed and framed project.

Astral Lions by DMC

Well, I have decided to give this pattern another go. I started it once before and made so many mistakes that I ripped it all out. I hoped the fabric would still be usable, but it wasn't so I shopped around and found the complete kit on e-Bay last year. I hope to have this one finished by Christmas for my niece.

Poem A Day Challenge ~ Days 28-30

The Cat and the Canary

Once there was a cat

Who loved to purr and meow

And also shared a song

With a yellow canary

And though they weren’t playful

They were truly friends.

And though they were friends

This bird and this cat

All they wanted was to be playful

And so the cat would meow

Loudly to the caged canary

And the two would sing their song.

And while it was a beautiful song

That the two shared as friends

The little yellow canary

And the pretty little cat,

While the cat continued to meow,

Found a way one day to be playful.

And now they could be playful

And sing their lovely song

While the cat continued to meow

Alongside his pretty friend

The friend of the cat

Was really a canary.

And though the canary

Enjoyed being playful

With his new friend, the cat

They continued to sing their song

And continued to be friends

While the cat continued to meow.

And while the cat continued to meow

To his pal the yellow canary

And the two became good friends

And found a way to be playful

They still sang their song

The canary and the cat.

I would love to hear the cat and his meow

As he sings his song with the yellow canary

And they become more playful and lifelong friends.

Never Mind

…And I was walking along the street

Looking for just the right thing

Are you paying attention to me?

Oh, never mind!

…I was talking on the phone with my friend

And we were making plans for the weekend.

Are you paying attention to me?

Oh, never mind!

Do you like this shirt?

Would you wear those shoes?

What do you want for supper tonight?

Oh, never mind!

Why don’t you hear me?

When will you see me?

Oh, never mind!

I am leaving you anyway.

Farewell

There are so many ways to say farewell:

Farewell, so long, adieu

Au Revoir, adios, goodbye

Cheerio, aloha, ma’a’salama

Well, you get my meaning.

Farewell is not forever, but for now

We will meet again, I am sure

So until that time arrives for us

I will simply say, “’Til then…”

Stalled...

Well, I was working on the Charger over the weekend and noticed that I am off-count somewhere. It sucks! I have recounted every stitch and have come to the conclusion that the pattern itself may be off. So, how do I fix it? Until I figure it out, the Charger is stalled at the halfway point! UGH!!! I guess I will pick up a different pattern and start something new until I have time to figure out what is going on!

Poetry Challenge - Days 17-27

All I want is ….

All I want is to be free

Free from the pain I feel

All I want is to love again

To allow my heart to be open

All I want is a home

A home to call my own

All I want is you

Forever by my side.

Heaven and Earth

There is a magic in the air

As I gaze up at the sky

And watch the twinkling of light

Pour out of the night

As the light shines down through

The atmosphere to me

I imagine the color

That the twinkling star could be

The layers of gas surrounding the earth

Can’t capture the true beauty

Of the stars high above

And their true light shining down.

Burial

There is a fire

Buried in the pit

Of my stomach

Each time I hear your name.

There is rage

Deep in my soul

Whenever I see

A picture of you.

There is an emotion

I just cannot described

Watching the dirt

At the burial of you.

Rebirth

Walking on the hot coals

No pain is felt

Only a love so pure

And so true

Walking on the hot coals

Complete awareness abounds

All sins are swept away

And life is here to stay

Walking on the hot coals

The old life is gone

And a new life is born

As if dead skin was torn.

Froggy Frog

Froggy Frog is here

Sitting on his lily pad;

Where is Slimey Snail?

You’re Fired!

You’re fired!

That’s all that was heard.

Ringing in the hallways

And rooms far away.

You’re fired!

There’s no reason why.

Just has to be changes

And you no longer fit.

You’re fired!

Say goodbye to your friends.

Don’t look back as you go.

Don’t leave stuff behind.

Regret, or the Lack of…

Regret is such a silly word

The choices we made are our own

We should learn as we go

To have a regret is a waste of time

Learn to live each day full

Learn to have no regrets

Regret is such a silly word

There’s no shame in our mistakes

We should keep our head high

And walk with shoulders so strong

And not waste a single moment

Wondering “What if?” or even “Why?”

Regret is such a silly word

When someone asks “What would you change?”

Simply smile at them and say

You have no regrets

The future is too full

To look at the past

Journey

I woke up this morning and looked outside

The sun was smiling with no clouds in sight

The thought of the hills and valleys ahead

Made me run straight for the car.

The road looked so inviting and long

I didn’t know where I was going

All I knew is I had to go…and fast!

As if time were running short.

The journey took me to new places

From desert to plains, from mountains to seas

I saw more of the country than I ever dreamed

And even spent some time on the sea.

As the day became night and the stars appeared

I looked to the heavens to get a glimpse of a plan

But followed my heart instead

Down the long, and ne’er-ending road ahead.

The Wedding

The flowers are in place

The choir is prepared

The dress is all white

The tux is all black

The men are in line

The women not far behind

The rings are resting

On the pillow we share

The music begins

The room stands still

The doors swing open

As the bride steps down the aisle.

April 25, 2009 ~ An Event Poem

You Told Me You Love Me

You told me you love me

How could that be wrong

You told me you need me

Why can’t I be strong

You told me it happened

But never again

You told me you’re sorry

You are so such a pain

You told me you love me

Never thought you would lie

You told me forever

I thought I would die

Don’t tell me you love me

Don’t tell me you need me

Don’t tell me you’re sorry

When you never mean it anyway.

Longing

My heart and soul is open

To the idea of romance

To the idea of love

My heart and soul is open

To the idea of forever

To the idea of you

My heart and soul is open

With a longing so dear

With a longing I fear
